There is no universal winner between ChatGPT and Claude. Compare the exact task, plan and tools you need. A benchmark headline or a reviewer’s favourite writing style does not establish which service is better for your work.

Use a small comparison pack
Prepare three safe tasks: one email, one source-based summary and one task specific to your work. Use the same source material and instruction for both products. Record the plan and any selected model or tool so the comparison has context.

Example instruction

Include one proposed action that was not approved. A good answer should not turn it into a commitment. This is an illustrative test design, not a result we measured.
Score the final work, not the first impression
Count errors, missing facts and time spent checking. Ask whether the output can be used after reasonable editing. A friendly tone and a long answer can conceal a mistake. Repeat an important task instead of relying on a single response.
Check product access separately
Plan names, model access, usage limits and supported tools can change. Confirm the feature inside the account you intend to use. Do not assume that a web app plan and developer API have the same billing or capabilities.
Privacy is another decision
Review workplace approval and data terms for each service. Do not upload real customer records to run a casual comparison. A made-up example can show instruction-following without sharing confidential information.
Should you subscribe to both?
Only if you can explain what separate need each one fills and the total cost fits your budget. Two subscriptions can add switching and duplicate spending. Many people can start with one tool and a careful checking process.
