Editorial Policy & Review Methodology
Last updated: September 2026
SmartToolHub publishes practical reviews, comparisons and guides to help freelancers, creators and small businesses make better software decisions. This page explains how we research, evaluate, write and update our content.
Our editorial principles
- Accuracy: Product features, pricing and availability are checked against official product information whenever possible.
- Transparency: Affiliate relationships are disclosed clearly before recommendations or affiliate links.
- Independence: A commission does not guarantee positive coverage. We aim to explain both advantages and limitations.
- Usefulness: Articles should help a reader complete a task or make a decision, not simply repeat a product description.
- Corrections: Material errors are corrected when identified. Readers can report an issue through our Contact page.
How reviews are prepared
The evaluation method depends on the product and the access available. We may use a free plan, trial, paid plan, official documentation, product demonstrations and reputable primary sources. We do not claim hands-on testing unless the product was actually accessed and used for the workflows described.
When evaluating software, we focus on:
- Core features and realistic use cases
- Setup process, usability and learning curve
- Plan limitations and pricing at the time checked
- Output quality or workflow performance where it can be assessed
- Privacy, support and documentation where relevant
- Meaningful alternatives and the users each option suits
- Important drawbacks, missing features and reasons not to buy
Review labels and evidence
Articles should distinguish between direct observations, information supplied by a vendor and conclusions drawn from research. Screenshots, test notes, pricing dates and source links may be included when they materially help readers verify a claim.
If we have not directly tested a feature, we will avoid presenting it as personal experience. Product availability and pricing can change, so readers should confirm important details on the provider’s official website before purchasing.
Affiliate links and sponsored content
Some pages contain affiliate links. If a reader purchases through one of these links, SmartToolHub may earn a commission at no additional cost to the reader. Affiliate links are marked or disclosed near the beginning of the article. Sponsored content, if accepted, will be clearly labelled. Commercial relationships do not remove our responsibility to provide balanced information.
Updates and corrections
Software changes quickly. We review important articles when meaningful product, pricing or policy changes come to our attention. A visible updated date does not mean every external offer remains unchanged. To report an error, provide a correction or ask about our process, please use the Contact page.
